橋咀洲島上的岩石類型豐富，地質遺跡豐富多樣，最特別的是在退潮時才露出水面的天然連島沙洲和香港的岩石明星「菠蘿包石」 。
「菠蘿包」為石英二長岩，因為風化作用使岩石外層的礦物膨脹或收縮，致使表面形成龜裂狀的紋理而得名。
